If you do get a newer engine with electronic pump you can swap it for the mechanical style. I know I want to get rid of the 2.6 but a 2.8 just isnt enough for me. Hey Guys- I have a 1988 Isuzu trooper with the original 4 cylinder engine. With that said I am looking for more HP. You will have to make your own engine mounts but there is a template for them thanks to Gary on isuzupup.com. I don't think there is anything available for the Isuzu (3.2 or 3.5) V-6s other than air filters. The 2.8 has a different bellhousing, and the 3.2 has one that is different from either. With this, you can use a 2.8, 3.1, or 3.4.
The subject I did this swap on was ‘K9Troopins’ 1991 Canadian built 2.8/mua5 Trooper.
Here is where any advice would be well received.
It has everything on it, intake, TBI, distributor, water pump, plugs, wires, oil pan, valve covers, flywheel etc, and is ready to be dropped in as soon as I get the old one out. I can't say whether a 3.2 or 3.5 will fit in the engine bay of the 1988 Trooper. I'm looking for a 2.6l, 4ZE1, of that vintage. 7 talking about this. I am also installing 350 and th350 w/203 transfer case.AnY help or suggestions on v8 swap are welcome. This hole was too big on the new turbo therefore the filter pipe would not go over it. Like I said in the write up, in a pinch, you can use a 3/4" plug in place of the metric one but you have to flare it out a tad. ANY "swap" is going to be complicated.
Not remaned, but actually new with a warranty. the hard part of my swap was trying to keep everything stock-looking and functional, like heat, AC, lights, shift console, etc. I would start with procurement the Motor (v.6) and tranny. I believe the engine is a 2.6 L (4ZE1) I-TEC fuel-injected engine and it's a manual transmission. This way he understands how to maintain his cars. Yeah, what Curt said! The 3.4 swap is the best Bang for the Buck$ when it comes to these rigs, Bar None! Again just unbolt and swap. I have been looking into an engine swap to a bigger v6 mainly for more power and torque to get through more stuff off road. Most of the ones currently on eBay are the older ones. It would be nice if the distributor would fit there, nice and accessible in the front like a Ford! It was a simple job of unbolting the casting from both turbos and swapping them over, similarly the rear parts where they bolt to the exhaust flange the new 3.0 litre turbo had 4 fixing studs where the 3.1 turbo has 3. So if anyone has done this or knows what they are talking about, can u please help me find a good power plant to put in my trooper that would bolt up to my stock gm trans without much difficulty. (1995 Isuzu trooper LS) I've done some research for diffferent types of diesel motors to do the swap and I've decided on the 4JG2T with the 5 speed manual.
What I'm wanting to know is,can I do a engine and transmission swap from the 99, into my 96. Is there a computer issue and bellhousing match. This is by no means an instruction guide but is meant to give a general idea of what is involved with doing an engine swap on a Isuzu car. Would the standard Tranny be able to mate with an engine higher than a 2.8? Also, as far as the gas tank is concerned would I need to get a new tank and pump, drain and clean the tank and/or buy a new fuel pump? With that said I am looking for more HP.

I really wanted to stay all Toyota but $5500 to $7500 for a used Toyota diesel was just not going to happen. What engine swap would provide the most HP while also being a reliable engine and still a 5 speed manual.
